Crossmark and Post-Publication Update Policy

PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, transparency, reliability, and permanence of the scholarly record published through its journals.

This policy explains how significant post-publication updates are communicated and how Crossmark, a service provided by Crossref, is used to help readers determine the current status of published scholarly content.

The Crossmark button enables readers to determine whether a published item is current or whether a significant update, such as a Correction, Erratum, Corrigendum, Expression of Concern, Retraction, Removal, Replacement, or other relevant update, has been registered.

Scope

This Crossmark and Post-Publication Update Policy applies to scholarly journals published and managed by PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi, including:

  1. International Journal of Research and Community Empowerment;
  2. Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran;
  3. Dedikasi: Journal of Community Engagement and Empowerment;
  4. Reog: Journal of Ecoethnoscience Education; and
  5. Epistemic: Scientific Thinking and Literacy.

This policy supplements, and does not replace, the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, Research Misconduct and Post-Publication Policy, Publication Fees Policy, and other applicable editorial policies of the respective journals.

Where more detailed provisions are required, the applicable policy of the journal in which the content was submitted or published shall apply.

Editorial and Ethical Oversight

Journals published by PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi are committed to editorial independence, research integrity, responsible peer review, responsible authorship, transparency, and protection of the scholarly record.

Decisions concerning acceptance, rejection, Correction, Erratum, Corrigendum, Expression of Concern, Retraction, Article Removal, Article Replacement, or other post-publication actions must be based on scholarly, ethical, legal, editorial, and research-integrity considerations.

Such decisions must not be influenced by publication fees, administrative charges, payment status, institutional interests, commercial interests, sponsorship, advertising, or other irrelevant considerations.

Detailed requirements concerning Editors, Reviewers, Authors, peer review, authorship, Conflicts of Interest, research ethics, research misconduct, complaints and appeals, and editorial independence are provided in the policies of the respective journal.

Reporting Concerns and Scholarly Discussion

Readers, Authors, Reviewers, institutions, and other relevant parties may report possible errors, ethical concerns, research-integrity issues, authorship concerns, legal concerns, or suspected research or publication misconduct to the Editorial Team of the relevant journal.

Reports should provide sufficient information and, where possible, supporting evidence to allow an appropriate editorial assessment. The journal may request clarification or documentation from Authors, Reviewers, institutions, research ethics committees, funders, or other relevant parties.

Allegations of serious research or publication misconduct will normally be assessed confidentially in accordance with the journal's Research Misconduct and Post-Publication Policy. Unverified allegations should not be presented as established facts through public scholarly discussion.

Scholarly disagreement, methodological criticism, interpretation, clarification, reproducibility, and other academic discussion may be addressed through the journal's Comments and Criticism mechanism where applicable.

Where substantial concerns exist but available evidence remains inconclusive or an investigation is ongoing, the journal may issue an Expression of Concern.

Post-Publication Changes

PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi aims to preserve the scholarly record as a permanent, transparent, and reliable record of scholarly communication.

Substantive changes affecting interpretation, reliability, attribution, authorship, ethical status, conclusions, or the scholarly record will not be made silently. The appropriate action will depend on the nature, origin, severity, and impact of the issue.

Minor Updates

Minor typographical, punctuation, formatting, display, hyperlink, or other technical corrections that do not materially affect meaning, interpretation, scholarly credit, reliability, conclusions, or important bibliographic metadata may be corrected without issuing a separate formal notice.

Minor updates must not be used to make substantive alterations to the scholarly record and do not normally require a separate DOI or Crossmark update.

Correction, Erratum, and Corrigendum

A Correction, Erratum, or Corrigendum may be issued when a published article contains a substantive error or omission that requires correction but does not invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.

The classification of the update will depend on the nature and origin of the error in accordance with the applicable journal's Research Misconduct and Post-Publication Policy.

A formal Correction, Erratum, or Corrigendum will be published as a separate post-publication record with its own DOI. The notice will identify the affected article, explain the nature of the error and correction, and be linked to the Original Article.

The Original Article will normally remain accessible and traceable with its original DOI and publication history.

Expression of Concern

An Expression of Concern may be published when substantial concerns have arisen regarding the integrity, reliability, ethical status, or validity of a published article but an investigation is ongoing, available evidence remains inconclusive, or a final determination cannot yet be made.

An Expression of Concern may remain part of the publication history even after the matter has subsequently been resolved.

Following further assessment, an Expression of Concern may be followed by no further action, a Correction, Erratum, Corrigendum, Retraction, Article Removal, Article Replacement, or another appropriate editorial action.

Retraction

A Retraction may be issued when a published article is found to contain serious errors, unreliable findings, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, serious data or image manipulation, unethical research, fraudulent peer review, serious authorship misconduct, or other major problems that undermine the integrity or reliability of the work.

A Retraction Notice will identify the affected article and explain the reason for the Retraction as clearly as legally and ethically appropriate.

The Original Article will normally remain accessible as part of the scholarly record and will be clearly identified as RETRACTED, unless legal, privacy, confidentiality, safety, or other exceptional circumstances require Article Removal.

The Retraction Notice will normally be published as a separate record with its own DOI and linked to the Original Article.

Manuscript Withdrawal

Withdrawal applies primarily to manuscripts that have not yet been publicly published by the relevant journal.

Assignment or registration of a DOI alone does not necessarily mean that a manuscript has been publicly published.

Withdrawal requests and any related administrative provisions are handled according to the applicable journal's Research Misconduct and Post-Publication Policy and Publication Fees Policy.

Once an article has been publicly published as Article in Press, Online First, Ahead of Print, or the Version of Record, concerns regarding the article will normally be addressed through Correction, Erratum, Corrigendum, Expression of Concern, Retraction, Article Removal, Article Replacement, or another appropriate post-publication action rather than ordinary Manuscript Withdrawal.

Article Removal

Article Removal is an exceptional measure and is not a routine alternative to Correction or Retraction.

Removal may be considered when continued public availability of the content creates serious legal, privacy, confidentiality, copyright, safety, security, or similar risks, including circumstances involving a court order or another binding legal requirement.

Where possible, bibliographic metadata, DOI, title, Authors, and the article landing page will remain available. The full text may be removed or restricted and replaced by an appropriate Removal Notice.

Article Replacement

Article Replacement may be used in exceptional circumstances where the changes required to a published article are too extensive to be adequately addressed through a Correction, Erratum, or Corrigendum and a replacement version is necessary to maintain an accurate scholarly record.

Replacement must not obscure the publication history or be used to silently rewrite a previously published article.

The Original Article will remain traceable and linked to the replacement record. Where appropriate, the Original Article may be identified as REPLACED or RETRACTED AND REPLACED.

Preservation of the Scholarly Record

PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi does not normally delete, overwrite, or silently replace published scholarly content.

When an editorially significant post-publication update occurs, the Publisher and relevant journal will aim to:

  • preserve the Original Article and its bibliographic record where appropriate;
  • issue an appropriate transparent editorial notice;
  • assign a separate DOI to a formal post-publication notice where applicable;
  • clearly identify the current status of the affected article;
  • maintain links between the Original Article and subsequent notices or versions; and
  • update the corresponding Crossref/Crossmark metadata where applicable.

Editorially significant updates will normally be issued as separate records rather than through silent in-place modification of the Original Article.

Crossmark and Crossref Metadata

For content participating in Crossmark, PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi will deposit and maintain relevant Crossmark metadata with Crossref.

The Crossmark record may include:

  • the DOI of the published content;
  • the DOI of this Crossmark and Post-Publication Update Policy;
  • the current status of the content;
  • the DOI and relationship of significant post-publication updates, where applicable; and
  • other publication or editorial metadata supported by Crossmark.

Significant post-publication updates will be registered with Crossref using the appropriate supported update metadata or relationship as applicable.

For journals and content participating in Crossmark, the Crossmark button will be applied consistently to new participating content rather than only to articles that have subsequently been updated. The Crossmark button will be included in the digital formats to which Crossmark applies, including article landing pages and PDFs.

Crossmark may also be applied retrospectively to previously published content where appropriate, particularly where such content has received a significant post-publication update.

Fees and Editorial Independence

Administrative, editorial, technical, or production charges associated with Author-requested Manuscript Withdrawal, post-publication changes, Correction, Corrigendum, Article Replacement, or other administrative services are governed by the Publication Fees Policy of the relevant journal.

Such charges do not influence editorial decisions and must not limit the responsibility of the journal or Publisher to protect the scholarly record.

Actions required because of ethical, legal, scientific, research-integrity, or scholarly-record concerns will be handled according to the applicable journal policies regardless of payment status.

Relationship with Journal Policies

This Crossmark Policy establishes the Publisher's general framework for communicating significant post-publication updates. It does not replace the detailed editorial policies of individual journals.

Each journal maintains applicable policies concerning:

  • Publication Ethics and Malpractice;
  • peer review and editorial independence;
  • authorship and authorship changes;
  • Conflicts of Interest;
  • research ethics and data availability;
  • research and publication misconduct;
  • Correction, Erratum, Corrigendum, and Expression of Concern;
  • Manuscript Withdrawal;
  • Retraction, Article Removal, and Article Replacement;
  • Comments and Criticism and Author Response, where applicable;
  • Publication Fees; and
  • other applicable editorial and post-publication matters.

Policy Review

PT Mitra Edukasi dan Publikasi may periodically review and revise this policy in response to changes in Crossref/Crossmark requirements, publication ethics guidance, applicable laws or regulations, scholarly publishing technology, Publisher policies, or other relevant international best practices.

Until a revised version is formally adopted, the current approved version of this policy remains applicable.
